Getting admission into a medical college in Tamil Nadu has just gone doubly expensive, costing students close to Rs 2 crore. After the results of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) were declared by CBSE, the private medical colleges and deemed universities in Tamil Nadu increased their fees for MBBS courses, making the average cost of studying at a premier college as high as Rs 1.85 crore, with Rs 1 crore as tuition fee and Rs 85 lakh as capitation fee. These private medical colleges and deemed universities will only be able to admit their students on the basis of merit, but still, some colleges have discreetly said that they would charge a capitation fee ranging from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 85 lakh.
