Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer in Indian men, especially in the older population. Patients do not experience any symptoms in the early stage and hence it remains a challenge for clinicians to diagnose and treat it. Currently, PSA testing has been recommended for screening of prostate cancer in patients over 50 years of age. However, PSA testing can result in overdiagnosis and overtreatment, which raises the concern about such testing. The other methods include physical examination, PCA3 test, ultrasound scan, and biopsy.

The general approach for the treatment of prostate cancer should consider complications, adverse effects, relative efficacy, and quality-of-life issues as well as patient preferences.
