Every once in a while we get to see reports in the media, especially print and social media, alleged incidents of sexual misconduct by doctors or paramedical staff. It is not a subject commonly discussed by medical Associations. Attention is focused on it only each time a fresh case surfaces and the media goes into lynch mode and unleashes a trial wherein they play the role of the Plaintiff, Prosecutor, Judge and Executioner –all rolled into one by indulging in what is known as ‘media trial’. However, every such publicized incident brings down the image of the medical profession a few notches.
