As per available information, primaquine can be given in modified dose and regimen in mild to moderate deficiency and not given in severe deficiency. My query is about practical applicability of this information. How to assess type of deficiency? Are patients aware about their G6PD status?

How judgement is made, is it tested before administration of primaquine? What is the fate of patients with severe deficiency? Are there any guidelines to address these issues? Please share.
