Pregnant women, who are at increased risk for severe COVID-19, experienced substantial protection from the 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccines against COVID-19–related emergency department and urgent care visits. Using a test-negative design among symptomatic women aged 18–45 years , vaccine effectiveness of a single 2023–2024 dose was estimated at 58% for pregnant women, exceeding the protection observed in nonpregnant women of reproductive age ( 37% ). These findings indicate that updated COVID-19 vaccines significantly reduce acute care encounters related to COVID-19 during pregnancy, reinforcing current recommendations for vaccination in this high-risk population.
