Long-term supportive periodontal care is associated with stable periodontal outcomes irrespective of orthodontic history . Over a 10-year maintenance period, patients with treated periodontitis and a history of orthodontic therapy demonstrated periodontal and dental parameter changes comparable to those without prior orthodontic treatment, including negligible differences in clinical attachment level, probing pocket depth, and tooth loss.
No association was observed between attachment level changes and previous orthodontic treatment, and current orthodontic treatment need showed only minimal correlation with periodontal, dental, or oral hygiene parameter changes, indicating that orthodontic history does not adversely influence periodontal stability when effective periodontal therapy and maintenance are provided.
