Abu Dhabi, The UAE The stomach of a 30-year-old Emirati woman was removed in toto to treat her aggressive stomach cancer. This complex surgical procedure lasted for ten hours, where the surgeons removed the stomach and created an alternative pathway from the intestine to aid in digestion and excretion. Initially, the patient presented with abdominal pain. Initial investigations revealed that she was in the second month of pregnancy. An endoscopy-assisted biopsy was performed on her stomach to identify the cause of the pain.

The biopsy revealed that the tumor had infiltrated the stomach wall and spread to the surface of the liver and even around the bladder. A personalized treatment strategy was required to manage the patient. Due to the risks involved, the pregnancy was terminated with the patients’ consent.
