ACL injury is a common traumatic & sports injury. So far the treatment was surgical. I have experience of treating 5 cases of ACL injury (proven on clinical & MRI examination). 4 cases came within a month of injury & one came after failed surgery. My protocol is to inject about 3cc of PRP & 10-40 million umbilical mesenchymal stem cells. It is a day case procedure. All my patients were able to ambulate after 2 weeks.
2 patients returned to sports by 6 weeks after the procedure, 2 patients had a problem with regaining final 10 degrees of flexion but they eventually regained it with physiotherapy. All patients except one were satisfied. The unsatisfied patient expected full recovery just after injection. After exercises, he too settled. It seems he had very high expectations. I feel stem cell procedure is an excellent alternative to surgery for ACL injuries.
