The foot is divided anatomically into the forefoot, midfoot, and rearfoot. Altogether, the foot comprises five metatarsals: Navicular , medial cuneiform , internal cuneiform , lateral cuneiform , and cuboid bone ; fourteen phalanges , which make up the talus and the calcaneus bones. Rearfoot disorders commonly manifest as pain around the calcaneal bone, often impairing one’s gait. These disorders are largely treated conservatively by shoe modifications, insoles or orthoses, and pharmacotherapy, including steroid injections.
