Robotic surgery has been one of the significant advancement in minimally invasive surgery. It has a great potential in the future specially in the field of urology. This article gives an overview about the status of robotic surgeries in urology in India and discusses the future potential of the same. The first industrial robot was made back in 1937. However, almost after 23 years first ever robotic surgery was performed in Canada.
Since that time, robotic surgery has advanced significantly. Urology department of AIIMS acquired a robot in 2006 and this started robotic surgery revolution in India. The first robotic surgery (radical prostatectomy) in India was performed at AIIMS in 2006.
