Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by reduced glomerular filtration rate and increased albuminuria. CKD is more common in diabetes mellitus patients, affecting one patient in every three. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a class of drugs recently approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. They inhibit the reabsorption of glucose in the early proximal tubule. Studies indicate that these drugs can also improve renal function in CKD patients, making them a promising therapeutic option for such patients.
