Good news for physicians. A new scoring method called S 2 TOP-BLEED predicts 3-year major bleeding risk in patients with a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or ischemic stroke who are receiving antiplatelet drugs. Based on 10 readily available characteristics, doctors can estimate the risk of a major bleed on antiplatelet therapy for an individual patient. Antiplatelet drugs such as Aspirin and Clopidogrel are administered after a stroke to prevent further formation of clots, however, these medications also increase the risk of major bleeding that can cause death or disability.

S 2 TOP- BLEED method predicts risk of major bleeding in patients who are receiving antiplatelet drugs after ischemic stroke based on 10 readily available patient characteristics.
