GLS-5700, a DNA-based Zika vaccine was demonstrated as safe and effective against zika virus in phase 1 clinical trials, in the latest study published in New England Journal of Medicine. As there is no approved vaccine against zika infection till date, these results give pave ways for further research. Zika virus infection is a public health emergency associated complication such as congenital birth defects and the Guillain–Barré syndrome. There are no approved vaccines against ZIKV infection yet.
