Iron-deficiency anemia is a common hematologic problem in the world. Often oral iron supplements are considered as first-line therapy. However, extensive evidence indicates that IV iron is superior, in efficacy and safety. These infusions allow complete replacement of iron in 1 or 2 sessions. Also, there can be many clinical situations where iron should be introduced earlier and in higher quantities to avoid further complications. In this regard, the article reports the safety and the practical aspects of IV iron infusions.
