According to the WHO, by 2030, 1 in 6 people will be aged 60 years or over. Aging results in a geriatric syndrome that includes various conditions such as hearing loss, osteoarthritis, muscle weakening, and pain. Sarcopenia, which is loss of muscle mass and function, and cachexia, which is muscle wasting disorder due to underlying conditions, are common in such an aging population. However, these conditions are often unrecognized, undiagnosed, and challenging to differentiate clinically.
Managing these conditions with exercise, nutritional therapy, hormonal therapy, and other available interventions is also quite challenging.
