Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation and swelling of the synovial joint, with subsequent destruction of articular structures. Patients with active RA are also associated with various co-morbidities, especially cardiovascular disease, contributing to increased morbidity and mortality. The pain, fatigue, and disability associated with RA result in a significant reduction in the quality of life of the affected individual.
