A recent single-center study by Munkwitz et al. examined sensorimotor complications in 375 patients treated with Iodine-125 plaque brachytherapy for uveal melanoma, focusing on diplopia (double vision) and strabismus. The findings show that while nearly 39% of patients experienced postoperative diplopia, most cases (71%) resolved spontaneously within 6 months. Strabismus was less frequent, occurring in about 7% of patients , with horizontal deviation being most common.

Risk factors for strabismus included superior rectus muscle manipulation, younger age, and moderate to severe vision loss. Importantly, no variables significantly increased the odds of persistent diplopia. These results reassure both clinicians and patients that although temporary vision disturbances are relatively common , they are typically self-limiting and non-disabling.
