A pooled patient-level analysis from the R HEIA and PARTNER 3 trials (712 women, mean age ~73 years, STS score 2.1%) demonstrated that transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) provided superior outcomes compared with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). At 1 year, the composite of all-cause mortality, stroke, or rehospitalization was significantly lower with TAVR ( 8.5% vs 16.8%; p<0.001 ), mainly driven by reduced rehospitalization ( 5.4% vs 11.9%; p=0.002) . Mortality and stroke were numerically lower but not statistically different.

These results strengthen the evidence for TAVR as an effective and less disruptive treatment strategy for women with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis.
