Recently, some plastic surgeons have obtained large social media followings by sharing theatrical videos of surgery with entertainment, rather than educational motive. Now, new ethics guidelines have been developed to ensure that the content of plastic surgery videos on social media will not harm patients . Regarding this, after an ethical analysis, a recent study proposes a novel set of guidelines to protect patients, surgeons, and the public perception.

The guidelines state that: Informed consent should be taken from the patients whether or not they would like to have their operations videotaped and broadcasted on social media channels. Inform the patients that they have the right to refuse and that this refusal will in no way affect the quality of care they will receive.
