Smoking is the most predominant causative factor of lung cancer which has a prevalence rate of 6.9 per 100,000 Indian people. Unfortunately, it is still very alarming despite bigger visual statutory warnings on the cigarette packets and similar promotional contents in the movie theatre. Indian law only prohibits smoking in public place and implementation of that law and hence adherence to it is negligible.
This leads to the estimation of significant tobacco-related death by 2020 (1 in 5 males and 1 in 20 females). Do you think a “complete ban” on the sale of tobacco products is the need of the hour to curb smoking-related pulmonary diseases?
