Non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is a type of epithelial lung cancer affecting people with approximately 85% of all lung cancers. Usually, NSCLC is insensitive to chemotherapy which targets epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) directed oral tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Thus, to improve outcomes, this study focusses on advancements in chemotherapy by adding pemetrexed and carboplatin to an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor.
The study deals with the phase III randomized trials in 350 patients with advanced NSCLC considering primary endpoint as progression-free survival and secondary endpoints as overall survival, response rate, and toxicity. The results showed significant prolongation in progression-free survival and overall survival in a patient with increased toxicity.
