WHO declares : 17 Sep 2019 to be the First World Patient Safety Day. The WHO link uses terms like 1. Harmed in healthcare .... 2. Unsafe care in hospitals ... Is the use of above phrases appropriate? By using the term Patient Safety we connote that patients are not safe in Hospitals.
It could imply that Doctors/health care givers who are responsible for patient treatment are harming them deliberately. The use of the name of Patient Safety subconsciously allows and makes us accept such statements. The use of title patient safety inadvertently criminalizes health caregivers in the event of an adverse effect / outcome. Such campaign names mold the public opinion that patients are not safe, instead of implying that the health care is not yet perfect, it has its own inherent limitations.
