27G, 29G spinal needles reduce complications in spinal anesthesia, especially C-sections. With a hub of the needle kept always in neutral position unless required. 27G/29G almost never or very rarely cause high spinal. Post-dural puncture headaches are never encountered with 27G / 29G. The addition of opioids like Butorphanol also contributes to this. Obstetricians appreciated and recognized this difference.
With practice, even for obese ladies, anybody can give spinal with 27G. Back pain, spinal cord injuries, nerve injuries, Cauda equine syndrome etc. all can be prevented. Patients feel very less discomfort while giving it. They often ask, "did you gave?" Share your opinion.
