Synopsis Globally, dental disorders, including dental caries and periodontal disease, are quite dominant. According to the Global Oral Health Data Bank, the prevalence of dental caries ranges from 49% to 83% across the world. 1 The primary approaches to overcome oral diseases include the use of mechanical toothbrushing and interdental tooth cleaning. While in certain conditions, the use of oral antiseptic in the form of mouthwashes is also prescribed for controlling dental plaque.

However, the associated side effects of such antiseptic mouthwashes limit their use for longer durations.
