As a young ophthalmologist thinking to start private practice, I see some challenges which are unique to ophthal practice. For example, large-scale development of charity hospitals in eye care than in any other specialty, usage of camps by the charity institutes to market themselves brazenly and then to convert free patients in paying patients at last minute. Also, ever decreasing operative charges versus increasing cost to establish the practice in this high investment needed field (phaco machine, microscopes, slit lamp, autoref etc) apart from real estate charges.
Should we have our own optical shop in our hospital? I would like to invite comments from everybody about way to go about setting private eye hospital and also request docplexus to have detailed interview of senior ophthalmologist like recently published Dr Pritam sir interview.
