New International guidelines recommends against doctors connecting with their patients on Facebook. An Indian survey revealed that 40% of the people did not want doctors to be their friends on Facebook, as they do not want to hamper their privacy. Modern day patients are quite aware of their privacy. They often insist doctors not to reveal their condition even to their family members.
Some patients do not even like to be called by their names in hospital public address system. What is your experience in your practice? Do you find it ethical to keep personal interaction through social networking sites with your patient? Do you find this much urge for privacy is justified in patients?
