We all get the leaders we deserve, and this is true for doctors as well. This is why there's been a hue and cry about the fact that the new avatar of the Medical Council of India - the National Medical Commission - has such few doctors. However we should realize that we doctors are to blame for the sad state of medical leadership today. We have not taken any interest in who represents us, and have continued to allow corrupt and unethical doctors to become our representatives in the State Medical Councils because of our apathy and disinterest.
The State Medical Council in each state is still extremely important, because health is a State subject.
