Chronic or high-dose use of corticosteroids is associated with the onset of hyperglycaemia. It is essential to closely monitor blood glucose in patients with steroid-induced diabetes or those having a history of diabetes while on corticosteroids. On these lines, the American Diabetes Association recommends insulin treatment for glycemic fluctuations in patients using corticosteroids. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels, and an early intervention may prevent prolonged symptomatic hyperglycemia.
