A 32 year old woman presents with dyspnea and hoarseness after being strangled by her husband. On examination, she has multiple small bruises over her face and neck. Trachea is not deviated and no emphysema is present. No tenderness of the cervical spine is present. Air entry is audible in all lung fields. Stridor is present. Her blood pressure is 100/70 mm Hg, pulse rate 92/minute and respiration is 20/min. Pulse oximetry shows an oxygen saturation of 98%.

X-ray of cervical spine shows no fracture. Direct fibreoptic laryngoscopy shows a mildly edematous epiglottis and swollen left vocal cord with hemorrhage. A CT scan of the neck is performed.
