I was posted as Director of Medical Services and Chief Consultant Surgeon at Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 1969. When Andaman Trunk Road had started being built which passed through Jarawa Area, one evening when labourers building the road were being brought back, there was a hair pin bend on the road. Jarawas who did not like the road being built through their area shot six labourers with their arrows. They were brought to our hospital. Port Blair where I was the Consultant Surgeon, I operated through out the night taking out the arrows from different parts of the body.

One arrow had passed through the head of Right Radius but narrowly missed the Right Radial Artery. The arrow had missed the artery but it was the most difficult case for me to take the arrow without touching the artery. It was one of the most difficult cases done in my surgical career.
