Any person suffering from epilepsy is on the verge of developing sudden unexpected death (SUDEP) with a prevalence of 1/1000 to 1/150 if the seizures are controlled. The cause of this sudden death varies from sudden cardiorespiratory arrest to dysautonomia, no one is sure. But brainstem depression after the seizure seems to be most favorable one. Young adults below 20 are the usual sufferers and they are all found dead in the pron position.
It's a worrying point as a treating physician whenever a person with epilepsy comes. Have you ever come across such an event and how you are going to overcome the panicky situation?
