Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by a T cell-driven autoimmune process, which majorly involves the diarthrodial joints affecting approximately 70% of patients. The affected patients with RA develop pathologies of the hand, especially of the metacarpophalangeal joints (MCP). The aim of the present article is to explore current knowledge in the surgical management of rheumatoid hand deformities,in patients with RA. Hand surgeons are an integral part of the management team for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
The treatment of the rheumatoid hand is masked in uncertainty.
