Despite the dramatic advances in medical and device-based therapy, overall morbidity and mortality of heart failure remain fairly high, with a 5-year survival rate of approximately 50%. Various surgical techniques have also been employed to treat heart failures, such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and cardiac transplantation. However, further evidence establishing these surgical techniques as a standard part of heart failure care is warranted.
