The inmates of Nashik Road Central Prison are going have access to telemedicine system via which they can contact medical experts at Nashik Civil hospital for health advice. The telemedicine system which is a combination of telecommunication and information technology provides healthcare at a distance. The aim of linking this technology with the prison is to curb prisoners’ escape attempts during transportation to the hospital.

Currently, the Nashik jail has a 72-bed hospital facility which can monitor blood, sugar and urine. However, for further examination the prison inmates have to be transported to the civil hospital. Civil surgeon GM Holey said that "Over the past one month or so quite a few medical cases of jail inmates have been taken up for discussion through the telemedicine system."
