As with everything in life, medicine also has a pecking order, and at the top of the pecking order are the super specialists, the superstars, the heroes; the renowned people who are brand names in their own rights, who are pretty much top of the hill and multi-millionaires, and are able to attract lots of publicity, as well as capital, because of the work which they have done; and these are the doctors who truly stand out. These are the names which come to when we think about success stories in medicine, and this is what every doctor, perhaps, would want to be. It's interesting that the common denominator seems to be that they're all cardiac surgeons, for some reason, but of course, very few will ever reach this status.
