To look after workers there is ESI a body under labour ministry, but the healthcare workers like doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff working in healthcare set up have no security and many of them contact seriously diseased like tuberculosis, pyogenic infections because of the day in and day out. They are exposed to patients who surround them. Even they can get HIV from needle puncture or by the spray of the infective organism in to cut wound or through their conjunctiva.
Many workers even die in the care of some epidemic of H1N1 or other diseases The hospitals have to tolerate huge conditions and the hygiene is compromised. It is up to us to have a demand for separate insurance if a healthcare worker gets a disease which he has contracted during the performance of his/her disease. So, should health worker be insured against occupational disease?
