In Kerala like "Large City," no patient cares for MBBS graduates. The majority of patients do search for a post graduate doctor in a particular specialty mainly because the patients are aware of their basic problems and whom do they are suppose to consult.Earlier this was not the case. Patients use to go to the nearest physician and the physician will refer the patient to a specialist if required according to the diagnosis. In effect, MBBS graduates in Kerala are a "professionally ignored" lot and just because of that every MBBS graduate try for the few seats available in PG or DNB. This also has led to malpractices and seat sales.
Huge sum of money change hands to get admission in private PG medical colleges. Medical education has become a business even for many such colleges. The "Referral system" should be brought back, I feel. What do you think ? Share your views.
