An international network cohort study has compared the risk of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome or thromboembolic events between adenovirus- and mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines. The study evaluated the health data of individuals aged ≥ 18 years from France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US who had received at least one dose of the vaccine from December 2020 to mid-2021. The data were analyzed for incidences of the above-mentioned conditions within 28 days post-vaccination .

A pooled 30% increased risk for the incidence of thrombocytopenia and a trend for developing venous thrombosis and thrombocytopenia syndrome were noted with the adenovirus-based COVID-19 vaccine .
