The PracTiCal India Study, published in the Journal of Indian College of Cardiology (2025), examined how cardiologists across India utilize ticagrelor in medically managed acute coronary syndrome (ACS)—particularly in patients not undergoing revascularization. Among 103 surveyed cardiologists, 70.9% preferred ticagrelor for not reperfused STEMI and 58.3% for non-revascularized NSTEMI. Key drivers for use included multiple stents (76.7%), high thrombosis risk (74.8%), and prior revascularization (63.1%), while bleeding risk (63.1%) and cost (52.4%) emerged as leading deterrents.
The findings highlight a pragmatic, risk-balanced approach to antiplatelet therapy in non-interventional ACS—showcasing ticagrelor’s expanding role beyond the cath lab.
