A 76 years old elderly Lady with multiple age-related problems was operated, as a high-risk case for Fracture Right Humerus ( ORIF with plate and screws) in a Corporate hospital on 28 Oct 15 in my town. Post OP period was uneventful and she was finally discharged on 02 Nov 15. She came for routine review after 5 days and check x-rays showed perfect alignment. She was sent home with requisite advice and precautions regarding weight and pressure bearing.
She reported again on 19 Nov 15 with history of mild swelling & deformity at operating site and moderate pain on movements. Treating Orthopaedic Surgeon ordered a repeat x-rays and to his fear the plate had got displaced, with at least three screws lying in the muscles of Right arm.
