A large population-based analysis from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey has identified tooth loss rate (TLR) as an independent predictor of mortality among adults aged ≥65 years. The study, involving cohorts from 2005, 2008, and 2011, found that participants with a rapid TLR had a 23% higher adjusted mortality ris k compared to those with slower tooth loss, even after controlling for confounders. The association was particularly strong in adults ≥80 years, non-exercisers, and denture wearers. Researchers suggest that TLR may serve as a simple, quantifiable biomarker of aging and systemic health , underscoring the importance of oral health in geriatric care.
