According to recent data released by the WHO, there has been a significant reduction in the number of measles cases in the UAE as compared to the rest of the world. The reduction in measles cases was possible due to a countrywide mandatory measles immunization program in UAE. Recently, there has been a worrying rise in the number of measles cases worldwide. The number of measles cases tripled worldwide in the first quarter of 2019 in comparison to the last year.
However, the UAE sets a global trend with a significant reduction in measles cases in comparison to the rest of the world. UAE so far has witnessed a reduction from 173 in 2018 to only 9 in this year. Only 9 confirmed cases of measles have been reported so far which was more than 60 cases reported last year in the same period.
