According to a recent survey of general and subspecialty pediatric providers, approximately 20% of pediatricians speak to prospective parents about umbilical cord blood banking. Although cord blood stem cells are demonstrated to be useful for managing some of the dreadful diseases, umbilical cord blood banking is rarely discussed and opted in India.
However, the lack of advanced facilities and expertise might be one of the major reasons for the reluctance of pediatricians to discuss it with prospective parents.
