Many of the surgeons are failing to use appropriate operating room attire when performing gastrointestinal surgeries. One of the surgeon during his procedure was reminded by the assisting nurse to wear the surgical mask to cover the mouth and anterior nares & surgeon started yelling at the nurse who in turn wrote an occurrence variance report to the quality & infection control department. Independent investigation was conducted by discussing with both the surgeon & the nurse & it was noted that there was a breach of the hospital infection control policy.
Following this a multidisciplinary meeting was conducted and a warning letter was given to both the nurse & the surgeon stating that nurse shouldn't interfere when the surgeon is performing his procedure & just report the incident through electronic system.
