The USFDA has recently approved prolonged-release injectable risperidone for treating schizophrenia in adult patients. The extended-release risperidone injection offers immediate and persistent plasmatic drug levels. Notably, it requires no loading doses or oral risperidone supplementation. Clinical evidence The safety and efficacy of extended-release risperidone injection were evaluated in the PRISMA-3 clinical trial involving 438 adult participants.
The patients in risperidone groups received 75 mg or 100 mg of risperidone injections once a month for three months.
