The US FDA has approved a recombinant chikungunya vaccine for individuals aged 12 years and older. This is the first single-dose, virus-like particle chikungunya vaccine approved in the U.S. under Priority Review, based on findings from two clinical trials. Clinical evidence In clinical trials involving 3,667 participants aged 12 years and older, the chikungunya vaccine induced neutralizing antibodies in 97.8% of individuals aged 12-64 years and 87.3% of individuals aged 65 years and older, 21 days after vaccination.

Notably, the vaccine demonstrated a rapid immune response within one week of administration. Moreover, the vaccine was well-tolerated, with mostly mild to moderate adverse events.
