USFDA Approves Two Copackaged Drug Therapies for Helicobacter pylori infection

Indication: The USFDA has approved vonoprazan dual and triple therapy for treating Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) infection in adults.

Vonoprazan triple therapy: Combination of vonoprazan (a potassium-competitive acid blocker), amoxicillin, and clarithromycin (a macrolide) Vonoprazan dual therapy: Combination of vonoprazan and amoxicillin Concomitant use of the following drugs must be avoided: Rilpivirine-containing products In case of vonoprazan triple therapy: Lipid-lowering agents, ergot alkaloids, pimozide, colchicine, strong or moderate CYP3A inducers, omeprazole, atazanavir, and nelfinavir Recommended dosage regimen: Vonoprazan triple therapy: Vonoprazan 20 mg + amoxicillin 1000 mg + clarithromycin 500 mg, each given b.i.d., PO (morning and evening, 12 hours apart) for 14 days Vonoprazan dual therapy: Vonoprazan 20 mg twice daily (morning and evening) + amoxicillin 1000 mg,…
