Good news for all the physicians who treat diabetic patients. The vaccine for diabetes has been officially announced. A vaccine issued over 100 years ago for tuberculosis has shown promise in reversing diabetes. The FDA has approved a mid-stage trial to test the vaccine, called bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), in 150 adults who are in the advanced stage of type one diabetes. Previous clinical trials of the vaccine injected twice within a four-week time frame have reported increase the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in diabetic patients.

The increased level of TNF in the system destroys the T cells that hamper the production of insulin. Moreover, the recent phase I trial of the vaccine has testified a significant response to BCG.
