Early detection of colorectal cancers is rare in our country due to the lack of awareness and unavailability of latest screening tools. Most individuals present with advanced or inoperable stages and the mortality associated with it is high. But implementation of routine screening programs within our country has been controversial. Apart from availability of resources, population based screening programs may not yield the desired effect.
Though the incidence for colorectal cancer among Indian population is much lower than western countries, studies have established it as among the top 10 most common causes of cancer mortality.
