A recent study published in The Journal of Pediatrics investigated whether vaping is associated with an increased risk of heart rhythm abnormalities among adolescents and young adults. The study analyzed data from 114,404 individuals aged 11 to 24 years in the TriNetX network. Vaping was associated with 82% higher odds of being diagnosed with heart rhythm abnormalities compared with not vaping (OR, 1.82). Moreover, the risk of developing heart rhythm abnormalities was approximately twice as high among those who vaped compared with those who did not (HR, 1.97).
These findings indicate that vaping is associated with an increased risk of heart rhythm abnormalities among adolescents and young adults, highlighting its potential adverse cardiac electrophysiological effects in this population. Should cardiac risk assessment be part of routine counseling for adolescents who vape? ##Reference##…
